Let the education begin

One of our goals at ATM Fee Tracker Australia is to ensure that consumers are educated about what to expect when they have to use an ATM that their bank does not provide fee free access to. Of course, we are not responsible for providing that education, but can be seen as more of an interested onlooker attempting to dissect the situation and pass on the findings to consumers everywhere.

Who is ultimately responsible for the consumer education though? Honestly, I am not entirely sure. But I believe most of the onus falls to the financial institution you bank with. The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and the Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA) should be there to provide additional support.

One novel idea to educate is a competition. And who doesn’t love to be a big winner? (Hey, the casinos thrive on it!) Well rediATM has taken that tack and you can win your withdrawal back if your institution is part of their ATM sub-network. It would be a bummer if the withdrawal you won on was your last twenty bucks before your next pay, after you withdrew the big dollars earlier in the week to pay off your gambling debts.

How is your bank doing at educating you about the new ATM direct charging regime? Did you already have an understanding on the 3rd of March, or was it a wake up call when the petrol station ATM wanted a total of $4 for a balance check and a withdrawal?
